II. Porcelain for
imperial use
¡¡¡¡The Guan kiln refers to porcelain kiln managed by
officials. The produced porcelain are only for the application
in imperial families. The Guan kiln in its real meaning
comes into being in Northern Song Dynasty. Before that
time, the porcelain used by imperial families is chosen
from the tributes of different places. Thus this kind
of porcelain is also called tribute porcelain, which
is also regarded as the sprout of Guan kiln.
¡¡¡¡After "Jingkang Disaster", Hangzhou became
the capital of Southern Song Dynasty in 1138. The society,
economy and culture of Hangzhou became more and more
prosperous. The demand of pottery from palace were increasing.
To meet the requirement, the imperial court of Southern
Song Dynasty followed the old system in Northern Song
Dynasty, and built Guan kiln in the Capital LinAn. In
history, it was recorded as Southern Song Guan Kiln.
